Google AI Mode: Personalized Search Experience with Gemini Update (2026)

Google's AI Mode is getting a personal touch with the introduction of Personal Intelligence, making Google Search an even more tailored and unique experience. This feature, following the launch of Gemini, aims to make your search results feel 'uniquely yours' by connecting the dots across your Google apps. It's like having a personal assistant that understands your preferences and habits, all without you having to constantly explain them.

Personal Intelligence leverages your Google Photos library and Workspace data, such as Gmail messages, to provide tailored recommendations. For instance, when planning a trip, AI Mode can reference your hotel booking in Gmail and travel memories in Google Photos to suggest activities and places that are perfect for your family. It's not just a generic list of options; it's a personalized experience.

One of the key benefits of Personal Intelligence is its ability to consider your past purchases and shopping habits. If you need a new coat for your trip, AI Mode can automatically take into account your preferred brands and even your flight confirmation to suggest windproof, versatile coats that fit the weather and your style. This level of personalization makes your search experience truly unique.

Personal Intelligence is also great for fun, imaginative questions. You can ask things like, 'If my life were a movie, what would the title and movie genre be?' or 'Describe my perfect day.' It's a fun way to explore your creativity and see how AI Mode interprets your requests.

On the privacy front, Google has made sure that Personal Intelligence is opt-in. You must first connect your Google Workspace or Photos, and you can disable it at any time. Google does not train the model directly on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library; instead, it uses limited information to improve functionality over time.

However, there are some caveats to be aware of. Google's systems might make incorrect connections between unrelated topics or not fully understand the context. If this happens, you can leave feedback and manually correct the information with a follow-up prompt. This feature is currently rolling out via Search Labs over the next few days for personal accounts in the US subscribed to Google AI Pro or Ultra.

If you don't see the prompt to enable Personal Intelligence, you can manually connect your Workspace and Google Photos by opening Search, tapping your profile, clicking on Search personalization, and selecting Connected Content Apps.
