Nottingham Tram Maintenance Closure: What You Need to Know (2026)

Nottingham's Tram Route Faces Temporary Shutdown for Repairs

Nottingham's tram system is gearing up for essential maintenance, but it comes at a cost for commuters. The Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has announced that a section of the tram route will be closed for two days due to necessary repairs caused by severe flooding damage.

On January 24th and 25th, passengers will need to find alternative travel arrangements as all stops along the Clifton route, from Queens Walk to Clifton South Park & Ride, will be temporarily out of service.

NET has revealed that the maintenance work involves replacing track ballast at Wilford Lane and conducting various repairs along the Clifton line. And this is where it gets interesting: the work is a direct result of the area's historical struggle with flooding, which has taken a toll on the tram infrastructure.

To ensure commuters can still reach their destinations, a temporary bus service will be operating between Queens Walk and Clifton South Park & Ride during the closure. Regular tram services are expected to resume on January 26th.

But that's not all; Wilford Lane will also be closed to vehicles during the work, with a diversion in place. Pedestrians, however, will be able to navigate around the work site.

Sarah Turner, NET's managing director, advises regular travelers to check the NET website for detailed information. She adds, "We understand this may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate our customers' patience and support while we carry out these crucial repairs."

This maintenance work highlights the ongoing challenges of managing public transport infrastructure, especially in areas prone to flooding. It begs the question: how can cities better prepare for and mitigate the impact of severe weather events on essential services? Share your thoughts below!
